Painting Shamrocks with Mega Blocks

With St. Patrick's Day coming up next week, I thought it would be a good time to do some green shamrock art. This was more of a process art with the shamrocks being the after thought.

I got the idea for using the mega blocks to paint here: http://www.craftymorning.com/simple-lego-stamped-pumpkin-craft-kids/

Supplies: cardstock, paint trays, green paint, mega blocks

Monkey helped me get the paint ready. We used the three shades of green we already had, plus we made two more by adding white or a tiny bit of black.

Then we put the mega blocks into the paint. We used yogurt lids to make sure the blocks fit and would be covered with paint.

Monkey got to work! As usual, he was thrilled to use his toys to paint.

He was giggling as he stamped the blocks on to the paper. "Look at all the prints! That's so cool."

He got a little frustrated because the blocks didn't hold much paint; he had to go back for more paint after pretty much every stamp he did.

He ended up doing three pages of stamping before he was finished.

We left them to dry for the afternoon. I had printed out a small shamrock to use as a tracer but I realized the print of the blocks was too big for such a small shamrock so I printed out a much bigger one.

I used the tracer to cut out the shamrocks and then I wrote on them.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
